CSDH-REGISTRY

RATIONALE

Chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) is a common neurological disease with an increasing incidence among the elderly.

There is currently no consensus on the optimal treatment of CSDH. Burr hole craniostomy (BHC) surgery is commonly performed in symptomatic patients, while pharmacological and conservative approaches also demonstrate potential efficacy in managing CSDH.

There exists considerable international, national, and inter-hospital diversity in the management of CSDH. To establish and eventually implement a standardized guideline, gaining insight into current clinical practices and associated outcomes is crucial.

The CSDH registry is a multicenter, prospective cohort study observing CSDH patients to assess their characteristics, treatment, and outcome. It aims to develop a predictive model for personalized treatment selection.

OBJECTIVES

We are interested in the effect of different types of treatment on several outcomes. All outcomes are measured at 3 months after diagnosis.

Primary
- Functional outcome, expressed by the modified Rankin Scale (mRS)

Secondary

- Recurrence rate

- Mortality

- Complications

- Duration of hospital stay

- Markwalder Grading Scale (MGS)

- Modifed National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (mNIHSS)

- Telephone Interview for Cognitive Status (TICS)

STUDY DESIGN

A multicenter, prospective cohort study.

Study population: all adult patients diagnosed with CSDH.
